Born in Kerrobert, Saskatchewan on June 4, 1960, Laurie played his junior hockey in Western Canada with the Brandon Wheat Kings, where he was drafted in the 1st round, 9th overall, by the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1979.
Having played three seasons with the Leafs, subsequent trades took him to Edmonton to play for the Oilers (`82 ), the Winnipeg Jets (`83 ),the New Jersey Devils (`90 ), and finally the expansion Ottawa Senators (`93 ).
After serving as the 1st captain of the modern day Senators, Laurie retired in `93 after a 14 year career with a total of 1009 regular season games played, 229 goals, 348 assists, 577 total points, and 2,265 PIM.
Laurie is currently working with Hockey Ministries International (HMI) as its Ottawa/Eastern Ontario Director.
